"When discussing your children's photography session with your children, please do not instruct them to "do exactly as Mr. Bermingham says." Express enthusiasm for the session and allow me to work my charm on them. I am an expert at capturing their attention and can relax the most rambunctious child. My specialty is getting children to cooperate without having them feel manipulated and controlled. Remember, my photographic sessions are never rushed. Patience is always rewarded. Likewise, please do not cue them to smile; this will lead to a tight, fake smile or grimace, usually with the eyes small or even closed. I aim for a more gentle expression - think of the Mona Lisa - where the eyes are open and the face is relaxed."
