Biography

Philip Bermingham is considered to be one of America's leading portrait photographers. Born in Great Britain, Mr. Bermingham moved to the United States in December 1978 and since then has been based in Washington DC. He has clients throughout the world and has photographed numerous world leaders, and members of the British royal family including Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. He has portrayed numerous CEOs including Bill Marriott, chairman of Marriott Corporation, General Colin Powell and General Norman Swarzkopf as well as Presidents Nixon, Reagan and Bush. He was commissioned by the Republican Senatorial Conference to photograph all of the Republican senators and has photographed more than five hundred ambassadors to the United States.
Mr. Bermingham's specialty is portraits of children and families. His ability to capture the attention and to relax the most rambunctious child and to bring out the best of a corporate leader or politician is unrivaled. That, combined with his relaxed easy manner can bring out the best of any family whether the portrait is at home, in the studio or one of the many locations that Bermingham visits during the year. He frequently spends time on the island of Mustique in the Caribbean in January and over the Easter holiday and the Naples and Miami areas of Florida in the fall and winter. Summer portraits can be scheduled in Maine, Cape Cod, Nantucket and the Hamptons.
Mr. Bermingham is an enthusiastic supporter of the arts. He is a governor of the Royal Shakespeare Company and a member of the National Committee for the Performing Arts of the John F. Kennedy Center. In addition to photographing Placido Domingo, he was commissioned to photograph the principal singers of the Washington Opera.
He lives at the Watergate in Washington D.C. and has a daughter named Scarlett who is a graduate of the Tisch School of Arts.
